(アルフォンス・エルリック, Arufonsu Erurikku ?) or simply Al (アルフ, Aru ?) is a character of the anime and manga Fullmetal Alchemist. He is one of the two protagonists, along with his older brother Edward Elric. The story focuses on the journeys they both make in search of their bodies. Some years earlier, they tried to resurrect their mother with human alchemy, but this led them to pay a high price: in the case of Alphonse, his entire body, and Edward, who had only lost one leg, tied the soul of his younger brother to an armor, at the cost of his right arm. After Ed's recovery, they set out in search of the legendary Philosopher's Stone, a fundamental element in restoring their lost bodies taken by Truth.
