I have a lot of designs that don't actually make to to here despite being interesting. I thought I'd share this one! This one is currently building halfway up on my custom modded rostock in full size. Don't be put off by it being a solid, Solids actually give much better surfaces than pre shelled objects as you can set single perimeter, vase mode, no fill and a few bottom layers. This gives the smoothest and most accurate skin. How I Designed This I have a custom openscad script that I wrote and tweak for the overall tube skin shape with some sine waves worked in to the height and angle. The bird tiling effect is converted to a psuedo grey scale and then to a height map. The height map is then repeated around and up the modulated cylinder. After an Openscad render, the resulting STL is huge because of all the intricate height map detailing so I run it through meshcape to simplify the skin. This also has a slight smoothing effect, a bit like a skin forming as paint dries, like surface tension. I save the resulting mescape file and load it into slic3r with vase settings(1 perimeter, 3 base layers, no fill, vase mode) To make the container a bit more robust, I set a fatter nozzle size in the printer extruder settings so that the plastic squidges out sideways as well as just down.
