This is a library to be used with my latest project "Animal mix n match"

Animal mix n match

Put a chicken leg in place of the crocodile head, a pig tail in place of its leg. Make the most absurd creature possible!

Animal mix n match is not a new idea. I used to have a cardboard animal mix n match set when I was young. I also found a few toy set like that in toy stores, but they work with velcro. I want to make a more satisfying toy to play with.

I created a "Demo" which is basically a box like animal. I made it to test the ball joint and see if it is fun to play with.

It's not supposed to look good, don't print this!

List of mix n match animals

Crocodile: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4751955

Minecraft Steve: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4761648

Chicken: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4862280

More animals coming soon

How I Designed This

The idea came to me a while ago when I was trying to design a ball join to hold my mobile phone in any angle. I didn't have good success, the phone is too heavy, but I made a very satisfying ball joint.

It works by joining the 2 halves of the ball seat with a rubber band, which put constant pressure on the ball. The ball can be pull out and snap back elsewhere.

You need small rubberbands. You should be able to find braiding rubber bands from most shops, they are quite common. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com.au/Hicarer-Elastic-Children-Braiding-Hairstyle/dp/B07BPZSXYC

I could use blender to design the animals, since they are organic shapes, but my blender skill is too low. That would take me way too long. I could use animal models from elsewhere, but I could not find models that are "puffy" enough to be adapted for this project. Also, it would be hard to find lots of animals of the same style.

I prefer design everything in OpenSCAD. That's not the best tool for organic design, but my animals do not need to be realistic.

I started with a crocodile. I will add more animals as I get more time to work on it, and if the community show interest in this project.
Category: Animals
