I recently needed to glue together many pieces of wood at many different angles (usually obtuse angles). I found it difficult to find a proper clamping setup that was stable for most of these joints, so I made these.

These tools should allow you to apply clamping pressure perpendicular to almost any joint. My strategy was:

Use a machinist square to drop a perpendicular line to the edge(s) you intend to glue

Clamp the clamp-helper to your workpiece(s) so that the perpendicular line you found intersects the round portion of the clamp-helper. (This may mar soft wood, I'm sure you could use some sort of rubber or scrap wood as a buffer between the clamp-helper and your workpiece)

Clamp the joint using the round portion of the helper, thus applying force perpendicular to the mating surfaces.

It is absolutely still finicky, but when you find a good positioning of the clamp-helper, the joints are rock solid.

I printed these pretty beefy:

PETG

50% infill

5 walls

5 bottom/top layers

0.4mm layer height (this dropped the print time of the smaller clamp-helper to just under 3 hours)

That said, I did about 20 joints like this, and these things never flinched, no matter how hard I tried to squeeze them.

Large measures about 6" end to end and Small measure roughly 4".

Though picture includes a solid-fill end for the large model, both models have a hollow end as this was found not to impact strength and removing it decreased printing time.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

TEVO

Printer:

Tarantula

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.4mm

Infill:

50%

Filament: Generic PETG

Notes:

Tested with:
* 5 walls * 5 bottom/top layers

Category: Hand Tools
