This is a semi-successful method to raise plants in the same tank as you raise fish for your aquaponics system. The top piece slips into a plastic construction net, which you suspend above your pond. It is a convenient size for holding a single piece of an egg carton, which you use to grow your plant in. The bottom piece gets pinned to the top, but is under the net. You screw a 12 oz drink bottle into it, with a few slits or holes cut into it for water flow, and it protects the roots of the plant from the fish. I say this is semi-successful because it is difficult to support the net in a way that keeps it out of the water high enough that the cup doesn't get flooded. But, if you do manage to do so, it works. I tried floating PVC pipes as well as thick string, both have their benefits and drawbacks. You'll have to experiment. Also, since you have to reach under the net to attach the bottom piece, it is only a good system for people who enjoy getting wet.
