Angel and then Archangel, whose civilian name is Warren Kenneth Worthington III, is a fictional superhero who appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics and is a founding member of the X-Men. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, for the first issue of The Uncanny X-Men #1 (September, 1963), although he has subsequently been part of other groups, such as X-Factor, the Champions and the Defenders. Archangel was originally known as Angel, but often uses Archangel as a pseudonym. This character is distinct from the hero The Angel of the Golden Age, created by Paul Gustavson. As one of the original X-Men, Archangel has been a frequent presence in X-Men-related comics over the years and has also occasionally appeared in animated series and X-Men video games. Ben Foster played the role of Angel in the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand and Ben Hardy portrays him in the 2016 film, X-Men: Apocalypse.
