The ArduSat, a successful Kickstarter satellite for personal space exploration, received $106,330 in funding- tripling its original goal. As a supporter and collaborator of the project, I 3D printed a full scale model using MakerBot Replicator, modifying files for optimal printing. The print includes ArduSat_FlatFrame, ArduSat_FrameRod_4, ArduSat_SolarPanel_2, ArduSat_Payload, ArduSat_PowerSystem, ArduSat_FlightComputer, and ArduSat_Transceiver. ArduSat_Spectrometer is also part of the model. The most challenging part of printing is removing support material from components. The spacers are a bit too wide for rods but may be improved in future versions. All solar panels might be included in a single print soon. Printing the entire ArduSat model takes time, but it's worth it as it becomes an impressive desk conversation piece. The satellite is set to launch in mid-2013 and will be used by supporters worldwide for unique space science experiments using Arduino and sensor payload.
