Arm Support

Arm Support

This is a device that I designed for a lady from Stroudsburg, Pa. She has a birth defect limiting her arm movement while running. She is an avid runner and currently participates in marathons. She wears a sling against her body to keep her arm stable. But, why not have a device that will enable her to move her arm freely just like a normal motion? This brace straps to her forearm and upper arm with velcro straps. Then an elastic band is attached to the hooks that are placed in the front and the top of the brace. These bands will assist in retracting the arm after she puts downward force. In a running motion your arm goes up and down so this will mimic that motion. 3-D printing has really helped in the process. I could make several prototypes fast and cheap to get proper fits and sizes. Printer Used: Stratasys 1200esSoftware Used: Rhinoceros 5East Stroudsburg University
