TAKE US TO YOUR PRINTER! This articulated model is not intended to be a faithful copy of the original Robby from Forbidden Planet, the 1956 American science fiction film from MGM. Rather, it is designed as a whimsical tribute to the sci-fi designs of Robert Kinoshita and MGM art director A. Arnold “Buddy” Gillespie. I printed it with 0% infill and three shells. (The photo shows an earlier version of the legs.) The optional visor is supplied in two parts. Print it with clear filament or remove the front part to view the faceplate details. (If you are looking for more faithful replica of Robby, I recommend http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1844474) 2016-12-29 Update 2.3: I've completed improvements to the legs and body, now posted as articulated_robby-legs_v2.3.stl and articulated_robby-torso_v2.2.stl. These files are easiest to print with raft enabled, with 0% infill or higher. I like the look of the model better with a slightly smaller and more detailed head, so I've also uploaded detailed_head_V2 and detailed_mouth_v2 models. (These are optional, more challenging to print, and require some assembly.) I'm leaving the file marked as "work in progress" as I am still working on a different head, with easier to print antennae. Update 3: I've also posted a sample of how you can customize this robot with different heads. Just add a gear bearing (such as http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1410972) and a visor (or googly eyes, if that's your thing) and voila! A Gear Head. Use a spring for the neck for added hilarity.
