Asteroid models - Toutatis and Mithra

thingiverse

More in the series of asteroid models derived from RADAR data, these are the asteroids 4179 Toutatis (4.5 x 2.4 x 1.9 km) and 4486 Mithra (2-5 km). Data for these asteroids are based on RADAR data archived at the Jet Propulsion Lab (http://echo.jpl.nasa.gov/links.html). Again these will hopefully be part of a hands-on display of data actualization in collaboration with the local NASA office. Instructions Shapes were derived from RADAR data and converted to .obj files, brought into Rhino3D v 4.0, reoriented to print without support structures (although the first 5-6 layers are a bit loose it tightens u prapidly thereafter) and saved as .stl files. I've been printing in white to see shadow detail but a friend who is an NEO object specialist seemed horrified that I wasn't printing them in black, so I obliged with Mithra.
