This is by far the most intricate and detailed model I have created thus far. It is a fully tested 1/7.5 scale 3d printable cutaway model of the Atomic bomb, ironically nicknamed “Little Boy” that demonstrates how it works. The entire model is made up of 112 parts, prints without any supports and slots/clips together. The only gluing or solvent welding that is required is on the trolley and the antennae. It also has two 9V battery compartments with removable lids, and a separate box that houses a standard toggle switch. There are also 3 holes for mounting LED’s. As time is short, I have not painted or completed the wiring on the prototype yet, but I will be sure to post my results when I do. I have provided: 1- all the individual parts in obj & stl format. 2- All the gcode files I printed my model with. 3- A comprehensive PDF instruction manual with step by step instructions. A bit of history: This devastating device has always fascinated me, but terrified me at the same time. After animating a mushroom cloud in 3D (to see if I could), I decided to finish off the short clip by adding the bomb dropping out of Enola gay. Using online references, I estimated what it would look like, and modelled the entire thing in 3D. One thing led to another, and it ended up as a complete model inside and out… so I uploaded it. I made some sales, so I decided to see if I could re-model it to be entirely 3D printable. The end result is great, and I am really happy with it. Even the trolley wheels turn. Some improvements were made after I printed it, so I am jealous of anyone printing with the new parts. The casing should now slot into dovetail slots to hold them on tightly (with some light cleanup) and the covers should clip better than mine does. Cheers & Enjoy!
