Generally, there are two types of media that can be used with the Ninja V and other Atomos recorders using a similar caddy design - expensive AtomX drives that fit nicely in the slot and inexpensive caddies which accept a SATA SSD, but which stick awkwardly out of the side of the recorder.

When I designed this model, I looked for the least expensive drive that was on the Atomos drive compatibility list which supported all available recording resolutions/qualities on the Ninja V with ProRes RAW HQ. The Sandisk Ultra 3D 500GB (2.5") was listed and at the time, cost only around $70. I bought one and disassembled it and I was pleased to see that the circuit board only occupied a small portion of the case.

This enclosure fits very nicely into the slot in the NInja V and it will hold the circuitboard at the right height so that the SATA pins will mate correctly to the interface on the recorder. I added ventilation in as many places as was reasonable and I've recorded for extended periods in very warm areas and I've had no problems with the SSD overheating.

Caveats:
- Shucking the circuitboard out of your SSD will void the warranty (one of the reasons for choosing something inexpensive). USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
- Since I designed this, they released the Ninja V+ and the Sandisk Ultra 3D is not certified for 120 fps on it

A YouTube How-To guide:

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/GevDjsoDC_A"></oembed>
