Use the image to laser cut representations of atoms and ions for your students to use in the classroom. The pieces were cut in a thick cardboard. These can be used to help your students to balance chemical equations and to grasp the idea of reactants in excess, when teaching stoichiometry. Some of the possible reactions with these pieces: 2 H2 + O2 --> 2 H2O N2 + 3 H2 ---> 2 NH3 Pb(NO3)2 + 2 KI ---> PbI2 + 2 KNO3 To cut the pieces and engrave the letters, be sure to set two different modes in the laser cutter, one for each color. In my file I have black for cutting and red for engraving (scan mode). To cut I set a higher laser power and slower speed than when engraving. The settings will change depending on your laser power. Make some tests with a small part of the image to get the best settings for your machine. There are many formats for vector files, I hope that these work for you. You can open the SVG file on Inkscape (free software) and find one format that works for you. I have now uploaded one archive for each reaction in SVG and DXF format.
