I designed some parts to enable a red targeting/alignment laser on a K40 laser cutter, using the main optics, but not interfering with the beam path or requiring splitters. I us a small Arduino Micro servo from an old starter kit, a NodeMCU controller, a 6mm 5v Laser diode, and a relay to accomplish this. The mount attaches to the back of the K40 with 4x 10mm magnets for easy adjustability. The full BOM, Video of it in operation, and build guide with Arduino IDE code is at : https://joekelly.co/diy/custom-automated-alignment-laser-for-k40/ The 3 parts here are the arm, the 2 mounts for the servo, and the tray to hold one relay (specific to my use case, I had a Seed 3v relay on hand so I designed the tray for that.) I am posing this for anyone else who wants to use it. I can print these for you or collaborate on adjustments or changes via my 3D printing services company JK3D.us.
