Backer Rod Insert Tool

Backer Rod Insert Tool

I need to replace the expansion joints in my driveway, and I was looking at tools to evenly roll backer rod in before I seal the joints. The tools range in cost from $30 to $70 and I thought I could make something that would more or less do the same job. Some hardware needs to be purchased to make this a reality, the holes are 5mm. Some washers will help reduce drag, or you could print the included spacers. Thanks to http://www.thingiverse.com/halley for the Broom Handle file... that made this project really simple! I'll be printing this next week and hope to upload some actual photos. Until then, it is a work in progress! Updated 5/31: Printed and decided that I didn't like the "flex" of the part when pressure was applied, so I added (and way overbuilt) some connecting supports. File has been replaced. Print Settings Printer: Makerfarm Pegasus 10 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .3 Notes: Your wheels and main tool should be a fairly strong infill, just so they don't buckle under pressure.
