Bahtinov Mask for Celestron 8SE

I really liked how the original THING "clipped" onto the front of the 8SE like the cover. And then, like some other designs I wanted it to split in half, partly for storage purposes and partly so that it would fit on my printer bed. I wanted the two halves to "mate" but I didn't want a hinge. So I came up with the opposing "tongues". I used this method in order to keep the storage perimeter low, and to keep it so that each half could print flat on the bed. I also extended four small "tabs" beyond the outer diameter in order to make it easy to "peel" the mask off. And I wanted the "Upper" half to "clip in" to the telescope like the "Lower" half does. (The original thing has two standing tabs on the Upper half, but no "bumps" on those tabs) so I added "bumps" to each of the two standing tabs. I used a layer height of 0.2mm, but you'll want to set the first layer to 0.3mm so that all the layers work out perfectly. Also, you'll want supports for the small "tongues", but you'll also want to add "support blockers" to keep the slicer from wanting to support the "bumps" on the vertical tabs on the outer diameter. I'm so glad that the original maker, "1010011011", posted the SolidWorks part, otherwise the remix would have been a lot harder. It's a great THING to start with. Now, hopefully it's even better.
