I always try to make functional and useful items. In this case I wanted a balance board for the office so I made a base and attached it to some scrap wood I cut with a sawzall.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

Prusa Mk2

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.25

Infill:

15-20%

Notes:

I used Prusa 3D slicer to do this but Cura 2.x is able to get the same settings:

3 perimeters (1.2mm)

5 top layers (1.25mm)

3 bottom layers (0.75mm)

Dimensions are with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.25 layer height.

3D infill is my preferred supports to ensure a maximum uniform structure.
The resolution could be increased to 0.15 - 0.1 to get a better curve on the top but I find the stepping is not an issue.

Please ensure you are printing at a high enough temperature to get good lamination of layers. Poor construction could lead to injury.

Post-Printing

Glue or Bolts

I used contact cement to attach the base to the scrap wood. Nicer pre-cut boards, about 12in diameter, can be purchased at local hardware stores for $7-$15 USD. Precut boards tend to be smooth so you'll want to get some grip tape to go on the top.

Indentations can be used to drill holes and install bolts for added strength. I would glue the base on first, drill the hole, and then install the bolt. Covering with grip tape might be useful.

How I Designed This

Fusion 360

I used Fusion360 to design and render.

Break down:
-Cylindrical extrusion
-Swept spline to make curved base
-Extruded cut for drill guides

Category: Office
