I made this for a demo at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. Using some trickery, a MakerBot first-generation Replicator can print this in an hour and 15 minutes (!) As it's quick and only uses 14g of PLA, it's a great way to turn bits of leftover filament into xmas decorations. It's designed to print as just a shell, with no internal or external support material-- the model has a couple of built-in props and struts which can be cut off after printing. Instructions The STL file has built-in minimal supports, and some cunning trickery to help it print without collapsing. It is designed to print with no support, no raft, no infill and single wall thickness. In MakerWare (for example) you will need to create a custom profile, and edit the following values: layerHeight: 0.25 numberOfShells: 1 roofLayerCount: 2 floorLayerCount: 2 doRaft: false doSupport: false ...plus whatever other settings you'd normally use for PLA (I doubt this could work with ABS). To avoid stringiness, I also increased retractDistance to 2.0, and tweaked feedDiameter to get the flow rate exactly right.
