Barrel Design of a Pen

This is the barrel of a pen. It is probably the most obvious place to design a pen. It is the part that catches our attention the most. I have made this design to show that in education you can simply learn new techniques while creating very common things we use in our daily life. It was a good design to work on while learning how to design a twisting model. How I Designed This I have used the sculpt and the model techniques together. The body of the barrel has three parts the middle is a circular pattern of a intersection of two sketches. the top and bottom are connected afterwards. The holder of the pen is made in the sculpt mode. Project: Barrel Design of a Pen Objectives Students will be able to learn about how rapid prototyping is easy to view your ideas very quickly as a product in your hand not virtually and they will expand their knowledge of different tools to use as they get new ideas for designs. Audiences Students in high school such as myself will be able to make this easily, I would say a beginner to intermediate level. Preparation While designing this they should be able to sketch dimensions, draw sketches, and create objects from those sketches in order to combine them at the end of the process. Steps First of all select a plane to work on. Then sketch the barrel of the pen. While doing this you should only be sketching half of it in two dimensions. After this process simply revolve it around and create a shell at the dimensions of your selection. By creating the object you have to cut this object in three parts so you can have the bottom and a part to attach the holder. Using the middle one of these new three objects, you should sketch how the pattern would look like. You should create one of them. After this symmetrically, extrude it to get the intersection and create a circular pattern. Then you can combine the three objects and you will have the barrel. You can add any other part so the design has a better look. Results Students should have made a barrel of a pen. A one object project should be printed. If they want they could add their own ideas.
