Culture: Panamint Shoshone (Timbisha Shoshone) County: Inyo Date of Manufacture: 1890s Materials: Willow (Salix sp.) shoots; bulrush (Scirpus sp.) roots; tree yucca [Joshua tree] (Yucca brevifolia) roots Dimensions (cm): Height = 16.8, Max Diam = 33.4 Description: Deep round basket with narrow flat base and flaring sides; woven in coiling technique over 3-rod foundation; design features 9 diamond snake patterns that rise vertically from base of sides to just below rim and are woven alternately in black bulrush outlined in red tree yucca root or vice versa; rim is decorated by segments of ticking (alternating dark and light weft) alternating with plain segments.
