BBQ Meat Probe Spool

BBQ Meat Probe Spool

There are a ton of probe spools out there. Here's one more. I disliked the ones requiring you to wrap the probe by hand around a fixed spool as the wire used with meat probes is pretty inflexible and it was a PITA to wind that way because it wants to kink. My new Fireboard probes are LONG too so I wanted a spool that would hold 6 foot wire lengths easily. And then with most spools online there was no fixed position for one end or the other. I wanted both ends fixed and the spool to operate like a fishing reel. The hub on my spool rotates. Put the plug end in the holder section, hold the base in your left hand, then just wind up the probe wire finally inserting the probe into the slot. Wind clockwise so as to utilize the built-in ramp to prevent a sharp bend in the plug wire end. The probe slot will hold all meat probes and has an id large enough to hold the grate probe as well. The hub top holes are sized to be a press fit. On some I had to use a socket placed over the holding pegs and tapped the top down. Or you could use a feature in some slicers like Cura and increase the hole size a bit and glue them on. So far a press fit has worked fine for me.
