Beauty and the Beast Magic Mirror

Beauty and the Beast Magic Mirror

I build this for a high school production of Beauty and the Beast. It was actually modeled around a free LED light from Harbor Freight. The face of the mirror was cut from a Ferrero Rocher plastic box and lined with parchment paper for additional diffusion. There's a picture of my original wiring in the images. To assemble it, I drilled two clearance holes in the raised shapes on the side of the mirror and used 1 1/4" drywall screws to secure it. I hid the screws with glued on gemstones. Unfortunately, the original design did not quite stand up to the rigors of the stage. The electronics took up too much space in the body of the mirror, so I couldn't anchor the handle as securely as Belle running home to save Maurice needed. The head of the mirror fell off and somehow (this part I don't understand at all) the plastic battery holder inside shattered even though nothing else inside was moved so batteries were rolling around inside. To repair it, I ran a dowel down the handle that was the length of the mirror. I hot-glued it to the inside of the mirror to give the whole thing more stability. The second version of the lights was done by winding fairy lights along the inside and sides of the mirror. Unfortunately, the mirror head was not deep enough to fit the fairy lights controller, so I just painted it silver and glued it to the back. If I were to make this again, I'd probably design it a bit differently.
