Bee Syrup Holder for Hive-top Feeding with Mason Jar

Bee Syrup Holder for Hive-top Feeding with Mason Jar

thingiverse

This is an original design of a holder for wide-mouth mason jars used on the top of a honeybee hive. This design mates snugly (especially once propolized) with wide-mouth plastic mason jar lids, and when placed over the inner-cover, has cut-outs on the side for ventilation and also for the bees access. I've found it immensely helpful to stabilize half-gallon size jars on top of my hives, and simplifies taking the jars on and off. I recommend printing this notch-side down, with a custom support in the middle of each of the notches. If this type of feeding is a new concept - drill 2 to 6 holes (depending on how rapidly you want to feed) of the smallest possible size in the plastic cover of a mason jar lid, and fill it with your syrup or feed. Place it inverted over the hole in the inner hive cover (using this holder if so inclined) and put a hive body around it, followed by the outer cover to keep pests and other bees out. Enjoy!
