Bilge Pump

Bilge Pump

My sailboat Has very limited space in the bilge Its a swing keel. This thing is a very Narrow bilge pump intake strainer and pump float bracket .Below is the type of pump and float switch I used . This is not the only bilge pump on the boat. This pumps purpose is to completely evacuate the bilge of collected water as it can fit down to the lowest point in the keel. another pump capable of many 100s of gallons per a hour is located higher in the bilge it’s too large to fit into the lowest point. Together the two pumps keep the bilge completely dry and ensure that should some sort of leak take place I will have the best chances of making it to shore. This is because the bilge will be completely empty when the leak occurs and the larger pump higher up will take over if this narrow pump can't keep up. It also minimizes battery consumption. The smaller pump draws very little current leaving battery in reserve should the larger pump need that battery someday. The intake strainer is so big because it's difficult to get at and my hope is that I will be able to go at least 4 or 5 years without cleaning it or re-printing it. The strainer snaps into its bracket with one hand and then the pump float switch installs in the bracket holding the strainer down the bracket is expected to be glued in with 3M 5200 as not much fits into the location where this pump is located.
