Use the arm of a MINI binder clip (spring clip, paper clamp) as an alternative to magnets for linear joining parts. Instructions: Use the "binder peg 19mm" or "binder peg 20mm" part as a cutting tool for a boolean difference. Then, when the parts are printed, pinch the legs of a binder clip and feed it into the legs half until it clicks into place, then press the exposed loop into the opposing slot. The "binder peg box" files are just to try it out on something really small. PROS: Small footprint Readily available hardware Works in thin walls No plastic-on-plastic wear Tolerance of the join can be manipulated by making the peg slightly longer or shorter. Strength of the join can be manipulated by making the peg slightly thinner If you only embed the legs, the loop can be used to hang for display or painting. CONS: Not all binder clips are created equal. These should be equivalent to what I use: https://www.amazon.com/Binder-Clips-Office-School-Business/dp/B09TW5JDTD Removing the legs piece again can warp the metal and make it not work as well Takes some trial and error to find a sweet spot for your needs on your printer in your material. IDEAS: Can make the join permanent by installing a screw where the loop would rest Can partially embed the clip handle to have a bit of pivot.
