Since this ventilator does not include intubation and is portable, it is a great option to use on ambulances as well as in emergency rooms and with patients in ICU.To begin air and oxygen flow to the patient, the ventilator needs to be powered and attached to compressed air and oxygen sources at the air intake ports. These intake ports are regulated by a solenoid valve which controls pressure, flow, and respiratory rate. The air intake is monitored by oxygen, temperature, pressure, and flow sensors that provide information to the medical professional. Control over these variables can then be adjusted accordingly. The air is then delivered to the patient via the face mask. A pressure sensor is always active and gives real-time readings on the pressure inside the mask. These readings allow the proper amount of pressure to be delivered to the patient. This applies to inhalation as well as exhalation pressure, which can be adjusted. During exhalation, the air will be pulled from the respiratory mask and exit the patient. The air then passes through a HEPA filter, removing any harmful agents and allowing safe release of that air into the surrounding environment. After passing through the filter, the air flows through a flow meter and a CO2 sensor. These provide vital data for the proper respiration of patients. Then the air is released into the surrounding environment. The patient has just taken one breath.
