This was inspired by https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4654071. PLEASE NOTE: WHAT I DID IS SUPER DANGEROUS, I REMOVED THE METAL COVER (which is covered by another metal cover) FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. I WILL PROBABLY SHOCK MYSELF TO DEATH. YOU WILL TOO. DO NOT DO THIS. DO NOT COMMENT THIS IS UNSAFE. Ok, if you've made it this far, you are not a safety sally so let's continue. I love this printer but the fans are way too loud. There are three tiny fans inside the base of the printer. Two are trying to keep the drivers cool and one is built into the power supply. Tiny fans move small amounts of air and/or are very loud. Large fans are quiet and move plenty of air. You can see what I did in the picture. Few notes: * The power supply top was removed (the part with the fan mounted to it). This allows plenty of air to blow directly into the power supply. If you are worried about accidentally sticking your fingers through the spinning fan into the high voltage, please see the note above. If you are worried about touching the high voltage when the bottom cover is off, please see the note above. If you are worried about EMI, please see the note above. * The curved cutouts at the front and back of the bottom are for the air to exit. If you are worried you will stick your finger in and get shocked, please see the note above. * I used two 12V fans in series so they can be directly connected to the 24V power supply. This eliminates the need for a buck converter wasting energy and creating heat. * The attached feet .stl file will allow room for the bottom-mounted fan's airflow. * I used a jigsaw while drunk. I recommend taking more time when sober. I used duct tape (the real aluminium stuff) to cover the holes. The idea is that the air is forced to blow from the bottom directly onto the hot parts and exit the front and back cutouts. * There are zero fan guards or screens which maximizes the airflow. If you are worried you might reach a finger under the printer while it is on, please see the note above. * It might make sense to use a new sheet of metal for the bottom, but I have no illusions of going back to the stock fans. So, for the cost of a pair of 120mm silent computer fans, you can have a silent B1! Oh, and it is so quiet now. All you hear is the fans on the head and the steppers when they move at high speed. :)
