Bitter Gourd (Melon) MRI Scan

thingiverse

This is a model reconstructed from an MRI scan of a gourd using ImageJ and Meshmixer. This awesome blog has posted a ton of animated gifs of MRI scans of different plants and vegetables: http://insideinsides.blogspot.com/2010/08/bitter-gourd-melon.html Instructions Not all of the gifs from http://insideinsides.blogspot.com work well. Try to find one with a lot of frames, > 150 seems to work well. Get ImageJ from: http://rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/ Meshmixer from: http://www.meshmixer.com/ Steps: In ImageJ: File -> Import -> Animated Gif Plugins -> 3D -> 3D Viewer Display As: Surface, Color: White File -> Export Surfaces As -> STL (binary) Load it in Meshmixer: fix it* Can be complicated, basically select the outside, expand to connected, invert selection, edit discard (to get rid of interior noise) See also: plane cut.
