Black on white sorting plate

Black on white sorting plate

thingiverse

This is a sorting plate designed for a rather esoteric need: to sort things under a microscope that are most easily observed on a white background for one thing and on a black background for another. It was developed for mosquito pupae that are sorted first for fluorescence on the black background and then for sex on the white background. This is a two piece device that can be printed either with a dual or single extruder. The insert is black and the larger dish white but if you prefer, you can use other combinations or make a variety. How this is used: the objects are placed on the black portion first, sorted into the lower white portion, and then that pool is divided into two groups on either side of the divider. The divider and spouts help one to empty the various portions without mixing them. The size is similar to a 90 mm Petri dish. I recommend printing the insert at 98% of the original size (in the XY plane only) so that it can be more easily inserted into the cavity. To complete the project, coat it with transparent glossy epoxy. The insert can be glued in using the same epoxy at the same time.
