I wanted a more modern type key for my E46. I didn't like the long key in my pocket. After researching getting a new key and reading how unreliable aftermarket reprogrammable keys were I decide to try to make my own using my second key. Instructions: You will need to cut open an existing key and remove the electronics board, (my transponder was on the board itself, if your transponder is separate you may need to modify design to accommodate). Next break the metal part of the key away from the plastic. I also used a razor to remove the Roundel from the middle of the key. Amazon sells the 11mm roundel but i didn't want to spend the money. Print: It is best to print in the orientation provided, with supports and a brim, the track on the bottom piece needs to be as smooth as possible. Once printed remove supports and sand before painting, of course. Use epoxy or super glue to fill in the gaps once you insert the key in to the holder. Allow glue to dry fully before completing assembly. Assembly: Use 4 - 2.5 x 13 mm screws and nuts
