Body-Centered Cubic Unit Cell Truncated

Body-Centered Cubic Unit Cell Truncated

thingiverse

This is a model of a body-centered cubic unit cell showing how partial atoms (as well as one whole atom) are included in the unit cell proper. The intended purpose of this thing is to use in a chemistry or materials classroom so that students can see the 3-dimensional aspects of the crystal structure. One possible use of this thing is to print multiples of this model so that they can be stacked to show how unit cells add together to generate an extended lattice. Instructions I printed this with 2 shells and a 10% infill with a raft. The model includes support structures at local minima that need to be trimmed away after printing (I used wire cutters). The spheres are well connected by themselves (I put cylinders between them to increase the contact area).
