Bolt action pen (for Pilot G2 cartridges)

This is a simple bolt-action pen that utilizes the Pilot G2 ink cartridges. You can make it single-color, or add an accent strip in the middle. The halves connect with a bayonet latch, which should be easier to print than standard screw threads.

It's about the same diameter as the G2, and about 7mm shorter.

Printing

You'll need to print:

1x
carriage.3mf

1x
barrel-bottom.3mf

If you want an accent ring on the pen:

1x
accent-ring.3mf

1x
barrel-top-accent.3mf

If you want no accent ring:

1x
barrel-top-no-accent.3mf

These pieces have very small areas of bed adhesion. I strongly recommend printing with a brim (which should already be set up in the 3MF files). The top barrel piece has a small built-in support in the opening for the screw. This should be easily removed when the print is finished.

Other parts

You'll also need:

Pilot G2 ink cartridge and spring

8mm M3 screw

Assembly

Screw the M3 screw into the hole on the carriage, then remove it. (This will create threads for making later assembly easier.)

Drop the carriage open-end-up into the top piece of the barrel, and screw the screw back in through the hole in the barrel. Tighten it until it stays put, but not so tight that the carriage doesn't move freely within the barrel. This should be pretty close to bottoming out the 8mm screw

Drop the spring into the bottom barrel piece.

Drop the ink cartridge into the top barrel piece. If you're using the accent ring, add it now. Then screw the barrel pieces together.

Notes

This print was inspired by a number of other 3D printed bolt-action pen designs. Max Stier's design was my first inspiration, especially with the integration of accent colors, and jaxicab's model also helped my figure out dimensions for my G2 cartridge-based design. I also liked the minimalist designs by ErnestCHF and StiK3FoRcC3.
