My wife and are both readers. We have many paper and magnet bookmarks. They don't last very long under heavy use, so I decided to try to design a plastic one.

The first design challenge is how to print it. The gap for the book's page would be too narrow for any support. So I decided to print it on its side (it does require brim).

The second challenge is to make it thin enough to be flexible, while thick enough to not break easily. I settled on a thickness of 0.6mm.

The cutout part of each side is so you can easily get it open.

It requires magnets. Neodymium are way too strong, so I went with the thin fridge magnets that you get with advertising on them. They usually are just barely strong enough to hold the advertising thing on the fridge (and can't even hold a note paper to the fridge). But they are thin enough and strong enough for this purpose - especially when cutting it into 2 pieces that will attract to each other. For this project I found some that are 0.5mm thick and just strong enough. I used super glue to attach them. Hint: let the magnets attach to each other the way they attract best, then glue them in place.

A printing note: I sliced with PrusaSlicer with the new Arachne and without. It made a slight difference in the "hinge" area.
