See my other designs on YouTube as rbattstuff Visit me at rbattstuff on Instagram : This is a fully customizable spinner fidget toy. It can use many things as weights from Ball Bearings and Quarters to Hex Nuts and Clay or even Magnets and concrete. You can use pretty much any center bearing you like by entering its dimensions. I have used the very common 608 as well as the smaller 625 bearings. I uploaded a few pictures to give you ideas. One of my favorite spinners uses plain old steel BB's! Make sure you select "Ball Bearing Retainer" for the Hole Type when using round objects. I strongly advise printing a Test Node(Choose Node Size Test from the Part dropdown.) to check the fit of the objects you choose. Most of the spinners I have printed are just loose enough to allow the ball bearings to rotate freely yet none of them have ever fallen out. I am perfecting the design and your feedback is appreciated! TIPS: If you choose the "Well" Outer Hole Type you will need to also print the "Well Lids" from the Part menu. They have a small lip that locks into the Well rim to close the chamber. Accent Inserts can also be printed using another color to make cool patterned spinners. They make really cool Tops if you use a Node_Radius of at least 28 and 5 or more 8mm-14mm Ball Bearing for weights. Just put a longer 3mm or similar screw through the Finger Grips. I filed the tip to a point and was able to get a top to spin well over 4 minutes with a short blast of compressed air! i have ordered the ball bearings from both Amazon and Ebay. They are commonly sold as Slingshot Ammo. You can use any round objects as long as they have consistent diameters. Marbles will work, but can vary in size a bit. Thanks and enjoy! Print Settings Printer Brand: FlashForge Printer: Creator Pro Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm layer, .4 nozzle Infill: 20-60% Notes: Notes: I print with 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers and 2 perimeters. I use higher infills (50-60%) on the finger grips. If using a screw in the finger grips, do a few test prints to get the screw-hole size adjusted to avoid drilling and tapping. I use a 3mm screw on all size grips. This is a very easy print and the recommended settings can be varied widely. Don't forget to change to "3D Print Quality" in the Display Mode dropdown when downloading the STL. Use the "Node Size Test" part type to print a test node to make sure your ball bearing will snap into the bearing retainer. I like to use a vise or wood clamp to squeeze the bearings in. They will usually snap into place and be able to spin freely in their socket. If they are too tight just up the Outer_Hole_Size. Print the Accent Inserts in a separate color for awesome designs! Common Bearing Sizes: 625 - 16mm Outer_Diameter, 5mm Inner Bore, 5mm High 608 - 22mm Outer_Diameter, 8mm Inner Bore, 7mm High 624 - 13mm Outer_Diameter, 4mm Inner Bore, 5mm High 623 - 10mm Outer_Diameter, 3mm Inner Bore, 4mm High 605 - 14mm Outer_Diameter, 5mm Inner Bore, 5mm High 688 - 16mm Outer_Diameter, 8mm Inner Bore, 5mm High 606 - 17mm Outer_Diameter, 6mm Inner Bore, 6mm High Outer Ball Bearing Hole Sizes: Add .2mm-.3mm to these numbers for loose fit 3/4" Ball 19.05mm 5/8" Ball 15.875mm 1/2" Ball 12.7mm 7/16" Ball 11.1mm 3/8" Ball 9.53mm 1/4" Ball 6.35mm Post-Printing The ball bearing retainers work flawlessly on all sizes of ball bearings. The retaining ledge is very small and calculated automatically for any bearing. You might need a vise or clamp to get the ball bearings to "snap" into place if sized correctly. They should then be freely rotatable. You can order bags of 10 to 100 from Amazon or Ebay. Search for slingshot ammo. How I Designed This I designed this first using TinkerCAD to get an idea of the geometry needed. Then I used OpenSCAD to create a parameterized model for customizer. Use the image shown to understand what the key parameters control. Overview and Background Lesson Plan and Activity
