A simple derivative from Crab's excellent Eiffel-style spherehttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4609 How do you make a display stand for a sphere, or just stop it rolling around? This is a shallow bowl, made from the same girder pieces as the sphere. To tidy up the edges, it uses a redesigned joiner. Either make a concave bowl and place it on a stand, place it convex upwards and peg it in place, or just fasten it to the side and arm your Deathstar! Instructions First make one of Crab's spheres (thing 4609), or my own "starfish" derivative of it. Cut some extra girders too. To make this dish, you need half of the joiners from this CDR file (only half!) and also some girders from the original sphere. You can make either 5-fold (top row of the drawing) or 3-fold symmetry (bottom row, using the 6-way circle joiner). 5-fold symmetry also needs 5 short girders and 5 long girders or 3-fold needs 3 long girders and 6 short ones. Otherwise it's just like building the sphere, only smaller. I make this with 5-fold symmetry and looking fairly circular. The 3-/6-fold version is less circular and more triangular - looks a bit uneven, A variant is to cut a circular joiner from 6mm rather than 3mm and use this to join two bowls together. This makes a good stand. A further variant when making a double bowl is to miss parts from the upper bowl. Skipping the lower set of edge joiners looks good, as does skipping the circumference girders altogether and just making radial 'petals'.
