Proteus Box Making Parts
Build a box and I've got everything else for you, minus the hinges. The best part is the corner pieces look great and snap together with ease. **You need to make sure the boxes you build/buy are the same size.** If you build the boxes yourself and are unsure then have a look at Youtube/Google for great schematics and tips. It's not as simple as one might think to make multiple boxes the exact same size. *Wood cutting skills not included.* Let me know what you think in the comments below. Ideas, changes, and more are encouraged by the community. **Help me create more designs like this by becoming a Patron at:** https://www.patreon.com/proteanman Everything helps and ideas are welcome! ---------------------------------------------
Hardware
**Bolts/Nuts:** use M5 (5mm) or 3/16inch if you are in the USA. The rope handles are also designed for that sizing in rope diameter. **Magnets:** 2x Neodymium 20mmx5mm round (cylinder) magnets for the latch. Ebay/Aliexpress/Amazon/etc will have these for a low price.
Parts & Printing
**Stacking Corners:** there are only one style of top/bottom corner pieces. The reason is that the squared notches help lock the boxes from sliding when stacked. **Plain Corners:** these are listed with "PLAIN" in their title. Use these on boxes that will not be linking together. They are just a standard corner piece. **Latch:** Two options - Latch Base with M5 (3/16") bolts or with Glue/Epoxy. You will need **two** 20mmx5mm neodymium magnets (cylinder). One magnet goes into the latch and the other into the top part of the latch base. Use the plastic cover plate to fill the gap and protect the magnets from smashing. This should be more than strong enough since those magnets have a very high attraction to each other... *Be careful* The LatchBases need to be glued over the latch to secure it in. **Rope Handles:** This is easy! You need **two** M5 bolts/nuts (3/16 inch) to secure the rope struts to your boxes. The rope should alse be 5mm (3/16 inch) in diameter. Thread the rope through each strut and tie the ends - use a lighter or heat gun to melt the knots to make them permanent. **Top Guide Plate:** these are to be glued to the inside of the your boxes at the top. You should only need these if your box doesn't close perfectly straight. These will help your box close and stay straight - especially if you don't use any latches like a rebel. **Foot:** There are two sizes and both are designed for an M5 (5mm) bolt. The hex inset will make it easy to tighten the bolts by hand. **Label Plaque:** there are two options - Single Piece Plaque - or - Two Piece Paper Insert Plaque. If you want to use the paper insert version you need to print both parts and glue the top onto the base. Then there is a slot in the top to insert your paper. **Box Edge Cover:** these are for the middle edges of your box, not to be used as corner pieces. There are 2 types with an end that chamfers into the corner pieces and a straight edge. The straight edge pieces have two lengths, 35mm and 70mm. Each has a ridge with a slight chamfer - please watch for double and single chamfer ridges to match aesthetics. *Disclaimer: I am letting anyone use this design for free.
