The Boxzy is a combination 3D printer/milling-machine/laser engraver. I want it to be a better 3D printer. The stock print-head jams a lot due to heat creep making it nearly unusable. In the process of unjamming the stock print-head I broke the thermistor and had to re-order a printhead. I looked up some information on the "unofficial Boxzy forum" (now offline), and saw someone's post on how they had replaced the stock printhead on the Boxzy with an E3D V6. I decided to make my own. This is a way to use an E3D v6 print head with a Boxzy 3D print canister. The E3D V6 has both a heat-break and an active cooling fan to prevent/reduce thermal creep.. In order to avoid losing any Z-height, the Boxzy 3D print canister needs to be modified to drill and tap some M2.5x0.45 holes for both some stop screws, and some retaining screws. Instructions: a) see the included PDF drawing first b) Order the E3D V6 printhead from E3D (I recommend the 24V version of the E3D V6 instead of the 12V version, and I recommend upgrading the board used by the Boxzy. Please see my other tuorial on Boxzy power supply modifications). Do not forget the insulating silicone sleeve. c) 3D print the Boxzy_3D printhead_retaining_plate (USE ABS or PETG, NOT PLA, too easily warped and melted) d) Modify the canister e) Assemble and mount the E3D V6 into the plate. Ensure that the fan is oriented to it can get enough airflow to cool the heatbreak. f) Wire the external 12V wall-wart power supply to the cooling fan of the E3D V6. Wire the thermistor and heater to the BOXZY 3D printer cable harness. g) Plug in the wall-wart power supply and 3D cable harness and print. (*Note: This does not solve the BOXZY 3D printing problem where it skips layers. That has to be fixed by upgrading the Boxzy power supply to a 24V 20A supply)
