Bracket for mounting Nest Temperature Sensor with 3M Command Strips

This bracket is designed to allow a nest temperature sensor to be seamlessly mounted to a wall with a “Mini” 3M Command Strip, while still being easy to remove the sensor for battery changes. Very useful for when you can't, or don't want to, put a hole in your wall to hang the sensor in a hallway or in a room without a good surface to put it on.

I prefer to use rechargeable batteries in my Nest sensors for environmental reasons. Unfortunately, they do not seem to last as long as disposable batteries. At first, I tried using the just a single mini strip, but with frequent battery changes, that meant I was going through a lot of strips (it also did not look all that good or clean, with the tongue of strip hanging out from behind the sensor). I thought about using some velcro strips instead (also called “click together” and “picture hanging" strips by 3M), but thought that would look even worse, with the sensor sticking out of the wall. So, instead, I designed and printed this mount.

A 3M “Mini” Command strip fits perfectly inside of this mount, and the mount sits flush with the wall while the strip still makes good contact with both. The sensor itself slots easily into the mount, with a slight lip that gives it a more seamless look, while also holding the sensor more securely and in a constant orientation - without impacting the ability to remove the sensor itself. The tongue of the strip is also accessible for when it comes time to remove the mount.

Finally, this print will require supports for the command strip location (but not for the mounting peg; that is support-free with PETG, and probably PLA, too), but I have provided gcode that I have tested in a Prusa Mini+ using white Prusament PETG. Also, these supports pull of pretty cleanly and, as a bonus, are super satisfying to remove. Just pull the tab, and they should tear off with a nice quick zip.

Hope you all enjoy it :)

DISCLAIMER:

I do not own the the rights to “3M”, “Command Strips”, or “Nest”.
