If your brake reservoirs crumple, you may be using an automotive brake fluid (dot 5.1) in your brakes. This will destroy them and many plastic things along the way. I learned the hard way. For Shimano nrakes, use mineral oil only.

Hi, my brake fluid reservoir covers disintegrated, so I spent a day making a 3d printed ones. The M355 lid already on Thingyverse leaked as its made for injection molding, not 3d printing. These should not leak, but I haven't tested them extensively (yet). Maybe they do just a little bit. I'd love to hear from you and improve them with your feedback.

The cad files are a mess as these are a traced photo + the stl file from here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3484736 for the seal and screw holes and completely freehand for the rest, so I'm not sharing them here. You can still dig them up on Onshape if you really want.

It seems like the original covers are made out of a plastic material that weakens rapidly when exposed to the brake fluid. So their kryptonite is literally the thing they are tasked with containing. (Yes there is a rubber thing in-between)

If you don't like the text, it's pretty easy to get rid of, or just ask for a version without one,

Hope this helps you ride safely again :)

Print Settings

Printer:

RebelX

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

I did 30 and 70, no idea what's best

Filament: Prusament PETG or tougher, no PLA for sure Green

Notes:

Print with the text on the bed

Post-Printing

You may need to enlarge the reservoir fill port hole just a little. Also careful when installing this. I stripped the thread in one of the holes a little. If it does not go on there, enlarge the holes, don't force it with screws. Aluminum is too soft for that.

Category: Sport & Outdoors
