The BRDM-1 (Boyevaya Razvedyvatelnaya Dozornaya Mashina, literally Combat Reconnaissance/Patrol Vehicle) was an amphibious armored scout car used by Russia and the former Soviet Union. The BRDM (also known as the BTR-40P) first appeared in 1959, and was in production until 1966. Total production was around 10,000 vehicles, less than 600 remain in the reserves of a number of countries. The vehicle is a conventional 4x4 design, with a welded steel chassis, an engine at the front and crew compartment at the rear. The driver sits on the left, with the commander to his right. The vehicle is not fitted with a NBC system, and has no night-vision equipment by default. A single white light searchlight is mounted on the drivers side of the vehicle. The GAZ-40PB engine is based on a US Dodge truck engine, it is coupled to a manual gearbox with 4 forward gears and one reverse with a single dry plate clutch. One unique feature of the vehicle are the four additional belly wheels which can be lowered to improve the vehicles cross-country performance by reducing its ground pressure, and to allow it to cross trenches 1.2 meters wide. Tire pressure in the main tires can also be raised and lowered by the driver for better performance. The vehicle is fully amphibious, a trim board is raised at the front of the vehicle before entering the water. In the water the vehicle is propelled by a single water-jet, equipped with a four bladed propeller at the rear of the vehicle, which is covered with an armoured shutter while on land. The vehicle is normally armed with a single 7.62 mm SGMB machine gun mounted in the front of the hull for which 1,250 rounds of ammunition are carried. Some versions have a 12.7 mm DShKM heavy machine gun mounted on the roof with a 7.62 mm machine gun mounted at the rear. Product Features (Studio Max): The model is rigged for animation, and the product features four detailed and textured resolutions of the model. This model is a 3DMax model, saved in version 8 as a MAX file, and requires 3DMax. It does not include any other formats to allow it to be opened in any other software. The model is rigged where appropriate, and mapped and textured. Product Features (3ds/ obj): Approx 302,266 polygons. Made entirely with 3 and 4 point polygons. Made entirely with 3 point polygons (triangles). Includes group information, which your software should interpret as separate parts, which includes: -- Wheels -- Hatches -- Spotlight Although the model includes these parts, this version of the model is not rigged. Includes logically named materials, such as BodyMetal, Tires, Headlight Glass, and more. This makes it very easy to recolor the model. This version includes an mtl file, which your software program should read to colorize the model. The model is UV mapped and one desert camo texture (in jpg format) are included, at 2048x2048 pixels. (We recommend using your own shaders for the rudder tires and windows.)
