Briggs and Stratton Adjustable Engine Mount

This is a mount for the Briggs and Stratton Engine commonly found in the Mini Baja SAE series (10HP OHV Motor, Model 20 I believe) This mount has a few benifits over standard rigid mounting. 1st. It is dampened using 4 Off the shelf rubber mounts. This is mainly for driver comfort and reducing engine vibrations felt throughout the car. It also helps to isolate the spark plug noise from any electronics using the vehicle ground. It also helps the engine run more smoothly over rough terrain, as frame flexing, if rigidly mounted, can stress the engine and result in poorer running. (although minimal with this engine) 2nd. The bottom studs remove the need for two wrenches to remove the engine. the entire engine can be removed using a socket wrench. the normal engine mounting practice is to use 4 bolts and nuts to some rigid fixture plate. however the engine is not designed to do this easily, and there is little room for the wrenches . No more dropping wrenches and bolts while trying to work on the engine. Studs are also off the shelf, from McMaster (as all components in this project are) 3rd. For standard CVT's the belt tension is critical. this system allows you to easily adjust belt tension with a single wrench. two bolts are threaded into a single threaded rod under the engine. loosening both allows the engine to slide. tightening the front bolt pulls the engine forwards. then tightening the bacl bolt will secure it in place. 4th. this whole project is designed using off the shelf components from McMaster Carr, and sheet metal. the sheet metal parts can all be cut using water jet or laser cutting CNC machines and bent with either manual or CNC benders. this removes countless hours of hand machining components and is both repeatable and accurate. Make 2 or 3 and have spare parts!
