This is one of the’hogbacks’ in Brompton, Northallerton - ‘Brompton-in-Allertonshire 19’ - described by James Lang in the Corpus of Anglo Saxon Stone Sculpture… http://www.ascorpus.ac.uk/catvol6.php?pageNum_urls=36&totalRows_urls=449 The reverse side is a few inches from another hogback and was therefore difficult to photograph. Consequently, the 3D model has a number of imperfections towards the lower left corner of that face, though this is also a part of the real object that has suffered some damage. ‘Hogbacks’ are objects that evolved in the early 10th century, probably in North Yorkshire before spreading elsewhere.
