Brompton MKS quick release pedal holder

I've designed up this MKS quick release pedal holder to install it on my Brompton folding bike. I had bough the Ti Workshops holder, but I didn't realise that it goes in the same place as the kickstand I had, so I was forced to come up with a new location.

I saw another holder that is attached behind the seat post with a magnet. It's a bit pricy for a block of metal with two holes and a magnet. And it doesn't look very nice either. But the idea was clever. So I made my own.

Materials

2 zip ties (see below)

A Brompton folding bike (duh!)

MKS quick release pedals (I have the MKS Compact EZY)

Extra quick release socket

I've used Ti Parts Workshop Titanium MKS/TPW Pedal Holder

MKS also sells Ezy ADAPTER SET. As long as the thread is the same as the one above (M14/1.25), it should work

Assembly

Thread in the adapter (if you're using the Ti Parts Workshop one, unscrew the quick release adapter from the bracket), attach to the frame behind the seat post with two zip ties (right next to the back frame hinge).

I designed the part in Fusion 360 and used an M14x1.25 thread, but the printed part was smaller. Since I didn't have the right tap, and the hole was close enough to the required size, I used a vise and a pedal wrench to cut the right threads.

If you have to this, ensure that you use something between the vice jaws and the adapter to avoid marks or scratches. Thick board/plastic sheet/leather, thin piece of wood, etc. should work.

For the zip ties, I used the ones I had at home (3x200mm, which are about 2.5x1mm). The holes in the design are 2x5mm so you can use thicker zip ties.

Now you have a place to store the left pedal out of the way when you fold your bike.

Print Settings

I used ColorFabb's economy PLA with 0.20mm layer height and 20% infill

Note:

I used support for the visible part of the zip tie holes. In PrusaSlicer, I enabled support material, then added a support blocker cube of 45mm sides covering everything except the tips of the curved part to prevent support being used inside the part (see the screenshots above). The only reason to use support is for aesthetics. You can probably print it without supports.
