Broom Handle Extension

When the broom was designed and used popularly in the early 1800s. The purpose of a broom was simply to clean the general kitchen area by moving dust out of the area. But with the rise of standards of cleanliness, the use of a broom has gone from removing dust out of a specific area to removing dust out of a floor of a building. This requires a dustpan to remove dust without spilling it everywhere. In order to use a dustpan requires to bend the wrist at an uncomfortable angle* in order to get a good sweep. This is a problem for those with arthritic hands or wrists, and food workers (they have a lot of sweeping to do). This model is meant to solve these problems while being simple and reliable. The description of the design is in the pictures above. There are additional knowledge and dimensions in the drawings, found in the first folder. There are a few bolts that are needed for this model, needed for reliability and strength. One self-tapping bolt, 2.5 inches long and .2 inches in diameter. One bolt that is 2.3 inches long and .2 inches in diameter with a nut. Two bolts that are 1in long and .2 inches in diameter (no nut needed). For this design, it would be best to use strong ABS plastic for durability, and lightweight. Because of this, I have chosen to use fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology for the material choice.Designed by Mason Chudleigh (individual).* Try this: hold up your right hand, palm toward your face. Now put your hand in a fist (to simulate a broom) and move it to as far left as you can. See also Ulnar Deviation and Radial Deviation
