How about a Triangulated Bucky Cup? #####Update: made the handle a bit thicker and adjusted its curve. Also, made a stop at the Fuller Dome Home, very close to SIUC campus. The C60 bucky ball is one of the most interesting structures. It has 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons. I built the bucky ball as a truncated icosahedron, which was then triangulated using tapered extrusion. The C60 has a circumsphere, a midsphere, and two inspheres (inscribed sphere). The hexagons have an insphere; the pentagons have its own. Their radii are slightly different. I calculated the taper angles using a bit of trigonometry. All the vertices are on the circumsphere of the C60. The triangulated bucky ball has 12 x 5 + 20 x 6 =180 triangles. It is very close to a sphere and is thus hard to print using support. So I decided to make cup using 1/2 of the bucky ball. Two cups will make a whole bucky. Perhaps, they can be used with sticky sand, play dough, snow, or even water (freeze it) ? The cup is about 100mm in diameter, 50 mm tall. ####Three Versions: 1) Hole in the bottom to help remove a play-dough model. 2) No hole in the bottom, great for iced tea ^_^. 3) Grooved bottom to highlight the triangles.
