Description: I needed a certain size stand for the new solderin iron I got and I've come to like the weller style cheapass standard stand. Only downsize in that were that the bended metal plate thing was too light so it had to be weighted down with lead block. This is my solution; quick to print (abt 1h), small, sturdy and has a small compartment for something heavy. I used birdshot balls and hot glue.. (hot glue creates friction surface at the bottom, thus making it more stable on table) U NEED: -3D Printer (D'OH) -Sum wire, 2mm thick (scrap copper wire works ok -> a.k.a pixie highway inside your [or someone elses] walls) -Something heavy; lead, rocks, sand, steel, tungsten, gold. (recommended but optional) -Hot glue (the gun is optional but helps) HOWTO: -Print -Clean and drill open the 2mm holes at front (my printer is ancient so this is a thing for me) -Cut abt 5cm - 7cm piece of the wire. Bent it so that it forms a u-shaped cradle for the iron and then curve the sides back down to the holes (they are 3cm apart). Form the cradle aka the iron resting part, a little wider than the thinnest part after the main body but still smaller than the heating part of the body. -> Idea is that the iron don't slide off but rather keeps it rested on the stand.. the whole point of the thing.. -Insert the wire legs inside the base, try to keep the iron resting angle the same with the printed groove. Trim off the excess wire from the bottom and bend them so they dont fall off when flipped. Hot glue seal is recommended. -Fill the cavity underneath with the heavy stuff and seal it with hot glue. To get the hotglue even and flat, there is a TRICK. ->Hot glue doesn't stick to wax paper or silicone mats when solid.. soo get something flat, place a waxpaper on it, fill the cavity with hot glue, keep it hot, flip the stand on it and press the mess on the paper and keep it there until solid.. DO NOT PRY IT OFF IF STILL SOFT! -Trim off the excess hot glue and DONE..
