Although the person here represented cannot be identified with certainty, the treatment of the hair in thick, coarse locks, the side-burns and look of fierce determination are typical of some Hellenistic ruler portraits. (The nose and bust are restored). It was bequeathed by Richard Payne Knight and is a Roman copy of the 2nd century AD from a lost Hellenistic original, probably of the 2nd Century BC.   This object is part of "Scan The World".
