Busy Board Sun

Busy Board Sun

cults3d

A counter rotating sun model for my son's busy board. It uses epicyclic gearing to make the outer section rotate in the opposite direction to the inner section. My son Jack loves spinning things, wheels etc so I thought that this would be a nice addition to his busy board. The epicyclic gears were just a design challenge for me and I wanted to see if I could print them. The gear teeth are an involute profile and printed well. The sun is quite large ~185mm diameter. I can design a smaller one quite quickly if there is demand for it, just let me know. The assembly is held together by an M6 x 20mm cap head screw and nut. This should just be tightened loosely so that it doesn't prevent the pieces from turning.
