Cabinet Mounted Filament Spool Holder

Cabinet Mounted Filament Spool Holder

I made a custom enclosure for my RepRap i3 and needed a spool holder that would work with it. It should work well with just about any cabinet/enclosure, just needs a few holes cut. There are several pieces to assemble: end caps that work with spools that have a 48mm hole, like the SainSmart spools the main mount plate the top support hooks the rod backing piece The two end caps are designed to have a 608ZZ bearing pressed in and to be slid on to either 8mm smooth rod (what I used) or 8M threaded rod if you want to use a nut to secure the spool. The two side hooks slide into the slots on the main mount plate which creates an L shape that will hold on to the edge of a cabinet. The ends of the hook pieces have a 'hook' so that you can cut a 25mm x 7mm slot in your cabinet that they will hold on to. The backing piece slides over the 8mm rod and pushes into the main plate. It is somewhat optional. If your cabinet is wood or metal you probably won't need it.
