A simple model used to calibrate the X, Y and Z axes, using dimensions larger than a standard 20mm cube The model will allow one to adjust the steps/mm on each stepper motor corresponding to an axis The total length of each axis is 50mm. There are also 10mm increments along each axis although they may be more difficult to measure with a smaller tolerance for getting a reliable measurement with standard digital calipers The procedure is as follows: - Take a measurement of the x-axis (length_x_orig) - Take note of the reference measurement (reference_value) - Take note of the stepper motor value for the x-axis (stepper_x_current) Now apply the formula: - stepper_x_new = (reference_value / length_x_orig) x (stepper_x_current) E.g. length_x_orig = 4.978 cm reference_value = 5 cm stepper_x_current = 80 steps/mm stepper_x_new = ( 5 cm / 4.978 cm ) x 80 steps/mm = 80.4 steps / mm Repeat the steps for the y and z axis The corrected stepper values can then be applied to the settings of the printer. The next iteration of the calibration model should yield values close to the reference value(s), e.g. 50 mm
